Over 55 volunteers converged on Koke‘e State Park Aug. 14 and 15 for Hui o Laka’s second volunteer workday at the historic CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) Camp. Cadets from Waimea High School JROTC joined other community volunteers (above) to put fresh coats of paint on two buildings. The renovation effort, ongoing since 1990, is heading towards completion, thanks to a grant-in-aid administered by Kaua‘i Planning & Action Alliance. Though volunteers are welcome any time, the next scheduled work party at the old camp complex is Sept. 25, National Public Lands Day. Call 335-9975 for information and to sign up.
