LIHU‘E — Friends and family members have organized a fundraising concert Tuesday to cover funeral expenses for 18-year-old Shanarae Kaulananapuaikaikamaolino Donovan.

LIHU‘E — Friends and family members have organized a fundraising concert Tuesday to cover funeral expenses for 18-year-old Shanarae Kaulananapuaikaikamaolino Donovan.
The benefit concert is from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Children of the Land Polynesian Culture Center at Kaua‘i Village shopping center in Waipouli.
The daughter of Anne Punohu of Kalaheo, she was also known as “Kaulana,” “Shana,” “Lana” and “Fi,” a press release states.
The Kaua‘i Community College student had plans to attend Cornell University and was a graduate of the Leadership Kaua‘i youth program.
Donovan was also on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee, vice president of the Kaua‘i Young Democrats organization, and was commended by the governor for her work with the Boys & Girls Club as an outstanding leader.
She was a recipient of the Wai‘ale‘ale Project, a four-year scholarship for college, and was completing an internship at the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
She also recently starred in the YWCA production of “Vagina Monologues” and was an active volunteer in her community.
Musicians, other performers and volunteers are needed for this event, the release states. Those interested in donating time or talent should call Sandy Herndon at 821-1234.
A memorial fund has been set up at Bank of Hawai‘i. Donations can be made at any Bank of Hawai‘i location by requesting the funds go to the Shanarae Donovan Memorial Fund.
