Problem with language? Move to Boston
This is a response to “Kimo” Rosen’s letter on Tuesday, Aug. 17 (“Re-elect nobody”): I, for one, enjoy the sounds of the pidgin singsong words spoken by the locals here, including “dese,” “dem” and “dose” (we love Pat Victorino’s radio programs). We have only been on the island five years, but even I know that you don’t go to another place to live, then try to tell them how they should do things. If you want proper English, Mr. Rosen, perhaps you should move to Boston, where they add “er” to every word that doesn’t require it, and drop the “R” from every word that does require it. The point being that every state in the union has its own particular colloquialisms, Hawai‘i being no exception. I spent my elementary years in Chicago, where there are lots of “dese,” “dem” and “doses.” The county council may or may not all need to be booted out of office, but the issue should be their job performance, not their speech patterns.

Enough teachers’ professional days off
All right, here we go now. First there was the waiver school day off. Then the furlough Fridays. Now that furlough Fridays are no longer enforced, here we are on the first week of school and already teachers at a school (no need to mention the school’s name cause they know who they are) here on Kaua‘i have created a professional day off of school beginning Friday, 13AUGUST2010. Teachers, where is the concern for the students from missing out on education? I think it went out the window. People, don’t you think so?
Don’t let created, made-up (professional day and whatever may be thought of next) names for missing school days be paid days off for teachers, with students being short changed (loss of education).
Teachers, put your profession where your mouth is and let the students benefit of learning what you teach. No more created, made-up excuses for not teaching and getting paid.

Thank you, Dennis Fujimoto
We are so lucky to have the talent and outstanding dependability of Mr. Dennis Fujimoto, sports photographer extraordinaire!
I think that I can speak for all the sports enthusiasts here on Kaua‘i that read The Garden Island. Dennis is not only a gifted photographer, but is where the action is for sporting events; be it cycling, track and field, football, baseball, swimming, triathlons, marathons, etc.
Thank you Dennis for your excellent coverage of the recent Kaua‘i Stage Race and for all you do to bring sports alive and in full color to The Garden Isle.
You are the BEST.
With much appreciation,
Sue Boynton, Leo McCarthy, Kilauea
How do you sleep?
Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho you should be a shamed of yourself!!! Honorable Kathleen Watanabe what is honorable about letting someone walk with 32 charges of incest? I cannot express with words how sad and disappointing this is.
You both should be held responsible if this man ever hurts another human being. I am mortified that this is how our justice system works, and it just goes to show how much work and effort you both put into keeping residents of Kaua‘i safe: (So far very poor job, very poor indeed). How do you sleep at night?????????????

Just a few observations
Just a few observations I’d like to share…It’s against the law to talk on a cell phone while driving because it’s distracting, but the 50 people campaigning on the side of the road are not causing you to take your eyes off traffic conditions. And why is it when I see an officer, he’s on a phone? Must be official business. Now they want to charge us a fee to haul away our trash. How much to haul away the trash that comprises our government? Cause I’m in. Next… the domed stadium. Unless money starts growing on trees, we as a county are several hundred million short of being able to construct one. Stupidity should be painful. And last but not least, stop letting a public forum become an avenue for a private debate. Please stop letting people bicker back and forth in the letters column.
