Happy birthday, Josie Pablo, who celebrated her special day Friday!
Josie pulled together the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital’s 14th bon dance, Thursday night (she said last year’s bon dance was on her birthday) with the help of many community volunteers and the hospital’s staff.
Daughter Veronica (who was born during one of the hospital’s lu‘au celebrations) even made an appearance.
Angela Gushiken had a kimono on so she could dance after selling out of all those ono cakes, cookies and lemonade to help care for the horses at the Kaua‘i Humane Society. Angela leaves for Macedonia Sunday and got the help of her good friend Jasmine Lloyd as well as the Jack Gushiken ‘ohana.
Judi Murakami has a soft spot for the Kaua‘i Humane Society so ended up with a big bag of goodies.
Coach Fred Sasan joined Arnold Leong and the Lihu‘e Missionary Church people in cranking out flying saucers (the line wasn’t that long), and Elaine Morita and Jaime Pablo (Josie’s husband who designed the gorgeous bon-dance shirts) anchored the saimin table.
OK, time to go check out the Menehune football game!
