LIHU‘E — The 6th Annual National Junior High Rodeo Finals were held in Gallup, N.M. at the beginning of July, with Kaua‘i’s Ross Brun capturing fifth place in the nation in the Team Roping division.
Brun partnered with O‘ahu’s Ty Shintaku to give the Hawai‘i duo the fifth-place finish among 61 national teams in the event.
The boys put up a 10.877 on their first steer, followed that with a 16.978 and finished with a 12.078 on their third effort, cleaning all three, for a 40.056 total.
Ross then added to his top finishes over the holiday weekend with a second place in a Jackpot Roping event on July 4 in Show Low, Ariz. That competition held 357 teams.
Kathy Rita assisted the Bruns in getting their horses to both events.
