LIHU‘E — Firefighers battled a rekindled blaze in Niumalu on Saturday in an area adjacent to the 14th hole at Puakea Golf Course.
Some 1.5 acres of brush on Grove Farm land was scorched before the Kaua‘i Fire Department extinguished the fire around 6:30 p.m., a county news release states.
The blaze was reported to police dispatch at 12:57 p.m. and units from the Lihu‘e, Kalaheo and Kapa‘a fire stations responded. Air-1 provided water drops from a golf course reservoir.
The fire was apparently a rekindling of one that broke out Friday afternoon and burned roughly 5 acres in the same vicinity.
The cause of the fires remains unknown, but KFD does not believe they were maliciously set, the release says.
The golf course remained open Saturday.
