KOLOA — Meals just got more exciting with the opening of Koloa Deli, located across the street from the Koloa Post Office.
“Saturday marks three weeks since we opened,” said Nichole Morris, one of the staff that was eager to serve the needs of diners in the Koloa town.
Lea Tanigawa, the deli’s manager, said the eatery is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays.
For lunchtime diners looking for a quick lunch, four specialty sandwiches are made fresh in the deli. Others looking for more variety can create their own sandwiches from a menu of offerings.
“We also have daily specials as well as soups,” said Tanigawa.
Early diners can also select from a variety of bagels as well as seasonal baked goods like the Mango Raisin mini loaf which was created by Tanigawa and priced so it doesn’t dent the wallet.
“We specialize in Boar’s head meats,” said Kori Sakamoto, a college student who is filling in her summer by working at the new deli.
Boar’s Head Meats offers no artificial colors, flavors, by products, fillers, or cereals, said Kori’s dad who stopped by for a quick lunch.
“It’s just good for you,” he said.
Tanigawa said one of the deli’s specialties is offering the deli meats and variety of cheeses by the pound for patrons who want to prepare their own meal. Complementing this, there are a variety of pasta salads as well as the local favorite macaroni salad available by weight as well.
Those offerings make it a perfect second stopping point after visiting The Wine Shop, just a few doors down on Koloa Road.
The Specialty Sandwiches at Koloa Deli include “The Godfather” with Genoa Salami, Capocollo, Mortadella, Prosciutto and Provolone, lettuce, onion, artichoke hearts, pepperoncinis, olive oil, vinegar and oregano, “The Classic” that include salami, Mortadella, Swiss, tomato, black pepper, mayo and mustard, “The Hoagie” that comes with Genoa Salami and Hard Salami, Prosciutto, Provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, crushed red peppers, olive oil and organo, and “The Veggie” which feature artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, red onion, pepperoncinis, olives, lettuce, tomato, choice of cheese, choice of oil and vinegar or mayo and mustard.
Tanigawa said the staff also welcomes call-ahead orders to facilitate the dining experience.
