The two Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics swimmers will be joined by 38 other Hawai‘i swimmers at the 2010 Western Zone Championship meet in San Jose.
At the meet, the Hawai‘i swimmers will be competing in a field of more than 500 swimmers from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming over a period of five days.
Machorek and Ware, both classmates at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, earned their spots to the Zone Championships by achieving a Western Zone qualifying time in one or more events during the year.
“I am so excited for Kate and Yasmine,” said SKA head coach Billy Brown. “This will be a great experience for both of them. This is the third year in a row that SKA has sent swimmers to the Zone Championships. We are very proud of our swimmers and the commitment they have to the sport.”
Anya Littlefield and Aaron Pigott, both Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation swimming standouts, also secured Zone times but will not be attending this year’s meet, states an SKA release.
Machorek, who will be participating in her first Zone Championship, will be competing in the 50 and 100 meter Backstroke, the 50 and 100 meter Butterfly, and the 50 and 100 meter Freestyle events.
Ware, enjoying her second Zone meet, will be competing in the 50 and 100 meter Freestyle, 100 and 200 meter Backstroke, 100 meter Breaststroke, and the 100 meter Butterfly.
Ware is the current Hawai‘i State Champion in the 50 meter Freestyle for Girls 13-14 and finished second in the state championships in the 50 and 100 meter Backstroke events.
Both girls will join Team Hawai‘i swimmers to compete in relay events at the Zone meet.
