LIHU‘E — Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and his appointees have formed a team called the Furlough Friday Force (F3), a county news release says.
Their mission is to assist with community service projects throughout the island on the county’s furlough days.
“We wanted to spend our time-off doing something positive for the community, and thought what better way to achieve this than to engage in community service projects,” said the mayor, noting that a minimum of 10 county volunteers on the F3 will be available to help for four hours on each of the selected projects.
Community groups across the island are invited to apply for the county’s volunteer service on the following days: Aug. 27; Sept. 3 and 24; Oct. 8 and 29; Nov. 5 and 26; Dec. 10 and 17; Jan. 14 and 28; Feb. 4 and 18; March 11 and 18; April 1 and 29; May 6 and 20; and June 3 and 24.
Top priority will be given to school-based projects that directly benefit Kaua’i’s students.
Community-based projects that benefit a large number of residents will also be given priority.
In addition, an attempt will be made to spread the work around so residents in all districts on the island will benefit from the F3 program.
The mayor’s office will review the applications and select projects based on the criteria listed above.
Applications are available online at www.kauai.gov. They can also be picked up at the mayor’s office located on the second floor of the Mo’ikeha Building in suite 235.
