LIHU‘E — Terry Lilley says he dives and takes video every day, but the full moon this week brought out some sights that even amazed him, he said in an e-mail
“The last few nights out in the ocean off the north shore of Kaua‘i has been awesome: Giant fireworms a foot long swimming on the surface, huge schools of brown surgeon fish mass breeding, gray reef sharks zooming through the breeding fish getting an easy meal, lobsters and eels all over the place,” he said.
“The night comes alive in the sea on a full moon.
“In the last five days I have taken video of the free divers at the roi round up spearing 244 roi, white-tipped reef sharks living in a giant cave at ‘Anini with thousands of fish, sharks with fish hooks and 30 feet of fishing line dangling from their mouth, reef sharks going nuts and slamming into the camera,” and much more, he said.
