The Bernice Hundley Gymnasium rained three-balls in the final period as C-Town notched six of its game-total eight treys in the period, Tab Matsumoto getting four en route to C-Town wrapping up a 79-64 match over the Organic Apples.
For three quarters, both teams battled tooth-and-nail before C-Town surged ahead in the final period.
Matsumoto finished with a game-high 36 points including the four final period treys followed by Austin Simao netting 19 points including three treys, two coming in the final period and icing the victory, dropping back-to-back treys in the final two minutes of play.
Organic Apples held a 30-29 bulge heading into the half, but a breakaway play by C-Town’s Silas Tacsiat ended with both teams tied 35-35 after Tacsiat was fouled on the drive up the middle.
Jeremy Robinson topped the Organic Apples scoring with 24 points, including two treys. Brandon Wong, the Apples’ player/coach, finished with 10 points, including three second-half treys.
Emery Souza had four treys for his game-total 12 points, and Randy Vicoy rounded out the scoring leaders with 11 points, one being a three-ball.
Overall, the Apples outgunned C-Town 10 treys to C-Town’s eight, but the difference came in the field goals where C-Town tallied 23 buckets to the Apples’ 14, the surge coming in the final period where C-Town pulled ahead 29-6.
The win sets the stage for a Tuesday showdown where all four games promise to be exciting as SupaStars got 19 points apiece from Ian Khan and Nathan Smith in its 86-50 win over Westside Pride who got 16 points from Ronald Villanueva.
C-Town and Supastars meet Tuesday night starting at 6 p.m.
The Organic Apples will face Manny’s Sports, a 61-45 winner over the Bull Horns, Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Willis Batol had 18 points and Michael Lindsey added 13 points for Manny’s who pulled ahead early and kept its lead over the Bull Horns. Christian Hudson ended with 14 points and Randen Holt added 10 points for the Horns.
Earlier Saturday, the Kaua‘i Ballers defense kept Kalaheo to just four buckets in its 48-44 win.
Despite being shut down on the inside game, Aiko Grande led the orangeshirts with four three-balls as Kalaheo hit the outside for seven treys to Kaua‘i Ballers’ two.
Jessilyn Aki paced the Kaua‘i Ballers with 15 points followed by Ma’ilika Napoleon adding 11 points.
Grande’s three-balls helped her get high point honors for Kalaheo, the shooter getting 14 points followed by Mollie Connelly ending with 11 points.
Carie Inouye had 14 points to keep .U..NCH. undefeated following its 42-30 win over the Kilauea Hui, Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. Natalie Mata added nine points.
Lauren Wilson finished with 10 points to lead the Hui with Iris Downey and Kapua Chandler each adding seven points.
Kristle Henry finished with 11 points to lead the Kamikaze to a 43-35 win over the KHS Alumni in the third of three Women’s 18 and Over matches hosted by the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association.
Marycel Garcia and Denise Karrati led the Alumni with nine and eight points, respectively.
