LIHU‘E — Rumors continued to circulate over the weekend concerning alleged abductions and murders in Kapa‘a.
The Kaua‘i Police Department on Saturday said no incidents of this nature were reported over the past week, according to county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
But some residents remain unconvinced and are not taking any chances. Several community members said Saturday that they don’t intend to let their daughters stay out late or their wives go by themselves in less-than-public places.
The speculation about other heinous crimes in the Kapa‘a area has intensified since July 7 when police opened a murder investigation in the case of Amber Jackson.
A hunter discovered the Kapa‘a woman’s body on July 3 in a wooded area of Kealia. The 57-year-old Hawai‘i State Teachers Association secretary was last seen alive June 23.
HSTA has established a memorial fund in her honor. Checks can be made out to “HSTA Amber Jackson Memorial Fund” and dropped off or mailed to the O‘ahu HSTA office, 1200 Ala Kapuna St., Honolulu, HI 96819.
Friends have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jackson’s killer.
Anyone with information is urged to call KPD dispatch at 241-1711, the Investigative Services Bureau at 241-1696, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
