Promotions and new appointments abound at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa.
Roberto Intriago recently joined the Grand Hyatt Kauai team as the Executive Assistant Manager — Rooms Division. Born and raised in Ecuador, Intriago moved to Newport Beach, California, as a high school exchange student. After graduation, he continued his education graduating from California Polytechnic University at Pomona in 1999 with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Intriago began his career with Hyatt while in college as a Front Desk agent. Having worked in various positions at Hyatt’s in Florida, Illinois, and California, Intriago’s most recent post was as the Rooms Executive at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.
Chris Valentino has returned to the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa as the Director of Engineering. Valentino began his career with Hyatt in 1990 as the Water Features Manager on the resort’s pre-opening team. He then transferred to Hyatt Regency Hill Country in Texas as the Associate Director of Engineering later working at Hyatt’s in New York, Connecticut, and California before transferring to the Hyatt Regency Waikiki in 2006 as the Director of Engineering.
Erin Kavanaugh is joining the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i as the Travel Industry Sales Manager. Kavanaugh has a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management and is transferring from the Hyatt Regency Irvine where she began her career with Hyatt as a Corporate Management Trainee and stayed on as the Business Travel Sales Manager.
Josh Olayer has been promoted to the newly created position of Social Ambassador at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i. Olayer was a Grand Club Concierge for the past year where he provided exceptional personalized service for guests. Born and raised on Kaua‘i, Olayer returned to join the Grand Hyatt team from Las Vegas where he was a Front Desk Supervisor at another hotel chain.
Whale sanctuary appoints new advisory council members
NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary announced nine new primary members and nine alternate members to serve on its sanctuary advisory council. The new appointees bring a valuable range of experience to the council, which provides sanctuary staff with input and recommendations on sanctuary programs and management.
The newly appointed advisory council members are as follows, by position:
• Native Hawaiian: Trisha Kehau Watson, O‘ahu; Malama Minn, O‘ahu (alternate)
• Fishing: Philip Fernandez, Hawai‘i; Robert Bruck, Maui (alternate)
• Education: Elizabeth Maynard Kumabe, O’ahu; Judith Lemus, O‘ahu (alternate)
• Research: Adam Pack, Hawai‘i; Jennifer Schultz, O’ahu (alternate)
• Honolulu County: Terry O’Halloran, O‘ahu; Jennifer Barrett, O‘ahu (alternate)
• Hawai‘i County: Luana Howell, Hawai‘i; Alex Scheftic, Hawai’i (alternate)
• Maui County: Robin Newbold, Maui; Cheryl Sterling, Maui (alternate)
• Kaua‘i County: Sharon Pomroy, Kaua’i; James Yamamoto, Kaua‘i (alternate)
