William Meheula Jr.
William “Baby” Ekekela Meheula Jr. died July 12, 2010, at his home at age 68. He was a fisherman with Libra Incorporated.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Jane Meheula, and sister Ernell (Walter) AhSing.
He is survived by his wife Rose Meheula; children Jamie (Lana) Simmons, Keikilani (Abbie) Simmons-Salvacion, Pua (Clifton) Camelo and George (Laureen) Pia; brothers Gordon (Yesenia) Meheula and Brian (Amelia) Mehuela; sisters Lana Ernesto and Marcla Meheula; thirteen grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of his life at noon, on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Hanapepe Tennis Court. Scattering of ashes to follow. Casual or aloha attire is requested.

Melvin Iwamoto Sr.
Melvin Tadao Iwamoto Sr. of Lihu‘e died July 14, 2010, at Queen’s Hospital at age 73. Born on Dec. 13, 1936, on Kaua‘i, he retired from Amfac, Inc. and Kano Trucking of Honolulu.
He is survived by his wife Linda Iwamoto; sons Melvin (Lea) Iwamoto Jr. and Kyle Iwamoto; daughter Darrah (Hiwa) Makanui; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters Elaine (Blackie) Isoda and Laurette (Norman) Kamehiro; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m., services at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 26, at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church. Cremation to follow.

Castora Sagucio
Castora Acio Garvida Sagucio of Kalaheo died June 9, 2010, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital. Born on March 23, 1933, in Lanao Bangui, Illocos Norte, Philippines, she was a field worker with Monsanto.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marcelo Sagucio.
She is survived by her sons Edward Sagucio of Honolulu, Ronald (Editha) Sagucio of Italy, Stanley (Leilanie) Sagucio of Kalaheo and Allan (Herma) Sagucio of Honolulu; daughters Glenda (Joseph) Cumlat of Kalaheo and Irene (Ric) Sagucio of Kaumakani; 11 grandchildren; brother Abelardo (Elena) Garvida of Hanama‘ulu; sisters Concolacion Romero of Kekaha, Leticia Serrano of Washington and Flora Sagucio of Hanama‘ulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 6 p.m., service to follow on Friday, July 23, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel. Visitation again from 8 to 10 a.m., service at 10 a.m., on Saturday, July 24, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in ‘Ele‘ele. Burial at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Steven Thompson
Steven Lee Thompson of Kilauea died July 13, 2010, at age 52. Born on July 27, 1957, in Norwich, Conn., he was employed by the Princeville Clubhouse.
He is survived by his son Steven (Tykey) Lee Thompson Jr. of Kilauea; mother Polly Thompson; father Bill (Alice) Thompson; brother Wayne (Shirley) Thompson all of Connecticut; and brother Keith Thompson of Hollywood, Flo.
Celebration of life at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 24, at Kalihiwai Beach.

Herminia Madriaga
Herminia “Mining” Madriaga of ‘Oma‘o died July 12, 2010, at Straub Hospital in O‘ahu, at age 57. Born on Aug. 28, 1952, in Laoag City, Philippines, she was a contract worker in Hong Kong and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband Wilson Madriaga; daughters Ling-Ling (Gary) Rayco of Canada, Maribel (Carlito) Manangan of Canada, Mylene (Benie) Battulayan of ‘Oma‘o, and Sharon (Jesie) Santos of the Philippines; grandchildren Carl, Breanne and Grayson; parents Berto and Mating Agno of the Philippines; sisters Clarita Domingo, Oping (Duardo) Mann, Josie (Macky) Acoba and Alma (Alex) Santos; brothers Joel (Lowie) Agno and Victor (Melba) Agno; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services at 5 p.m., on Saturday, July 24, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Burial to be at Currimao, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

Joseph Arruda Jr.
Joseph “Sonny” Andrew Arruda Jr. of Kapa‘a died July 14, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 80. Born on Aug. 21, 1929, in Kapa‘a, he was a retired lieutenant with the Kaua‘i Police Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Arruda Sr.; brother Jordan Arruda; sisters Marie Arruda and Rosalani Arruda; and daughter Diana Javier.
He is survived by his wife Lillian Arruda; daughters Gloria (Russell) Yee, Mary Moran, Vicky Koga and Carrie (Greg) Kanelis; son Joseph (Juli) Arruda III; brother Donald Arruda; sister Theresa (James) Fune; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation at 8:30 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Friday, July 30, at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa‘a. Burial to follow at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery.

Alfonso Bautista
Alfonso B. Bautista, 98, of Kilauea, Kaua‘i, died July 12, 2010, at his Kilauea home. Born on May 14, 1912, in the Philippines, he was a retired groundskeeper.
He is survived by his daughters Nelly Bautista, Noreen Bautista and Raina (Thomas) Bautista-Balai; numerous family members and friends.
Visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m., memorial services at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 23, at St. Sylvester’s Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Catherine Church Cemetery.

Kenneth Bigelow
Kenneth Wright Bigelow of Kalaheo died July 6, 2010, at Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston, Mass., at age 64. Born March 14, 1946, in Greenfield, Mass., he was a physical science and physics teacher at Kaua‘i High School.
He was preceded in death by his mother Jean Bigelow, and sister Shelly Bigelow White.
He is survived by his life partner Lauria Sullivan of Kalaheo; sister Jennifer Bigelow McGovern of Goleta, Calif.; and nephew Ryan White of Salt Lake City.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at his home in Kahaleo on Aug. 1, followed by the spreading of ashes over his special surf location. Friends wishing to participate may call Charles Fulks at 651-6190 for details.
