KALAHEO — Livingston “Ikaika” Towan and Clareson Torres fired 10 points each to lead the Nite Owls to a 49-48 edge over the Organic Apples in one of three Men’s 18 and Over basketball games, Thursday night.
Ian Khan netted a game-high 34 points to lead the SupaStars to a 90-46 win over the Bull Horns in the second matchup of the night.
James Aiu and Mike Lindsey finished with 14 points each to lead Manny’s Sports to a 79-34 win over Tropang-L, who was missing the services of its key ball handlers, and in the final game, Austin Simao came up with 30 points and Tab Matsumoto added 21 points to lead C-Town to a 91-37 win over Westside Pride.
Jeremy Robinson and Randy Vicoy each fired off game-high 14 points for the Organic Apples, who knocked down four three-balls compared with the three from the Nite Owls, Robinson and Vicoy each netting a pair of triples apiece.
But the margin came when the Nite Owls pocketed 17 buckets to the Apples’ 15.
Following Rowan and Torres, the Owls got nine points from Kaleo Cummings, including one three-ball in the third frame, seven points from brother Kapono Cummings, six points from Ray Bode Jr., five points from Keelan Sakuda and a pair from James Sagucio in the squeaking win.
Following the two Apples scoring leaders, player-coach Brandon Wong finished with 11 points, Clifton Asuncion contributed five points and Damien Girard added four points in the effort.
Despite Khan putting in just one final-frame bucket, Ian Clements stepped up for 10 of his game total 19 points in the final frame, and Darin Millard added 17 points, going 9-for-13 at the charity stripe.
Clements, a hot outside shooter, netted five of the seven treys marked by the SupaStars, Khan getting one and David Medeiros, finishing with five points, getting the final trey.
Keven Hanano, coach for the Kamikaze program, finished with 11 points, including four in the final frame.
Jason Kashiwabara ended with four points and several key boards to round out the win.
Douglas Lewis paced the Bull Horns’ effort with 16 points, including a pair of third quarter three-balls. Christian Hudson followed with seven points, followed by Raymond Keahi adding six points on two treys. Bob Jacobs had a trey toward his five points, Palani Ka‘auwai finished with three points and Ben Fernandes had a pair on two free throws.
Following the Manny’s Sports scoring leaders, Davin Camarillo added 13 points, Willis Batol ended with a dozen marks and Manolito Pescador added 10 points.
Sammy Perpose and Jaymark Serapio paced the Tropang-L effort with nine and seven points, respectively.
Olin Claussen finished with 15 points and Silas Tacsiat added a dozen points to the C-Town scoring leaders.
Ronald Villanueva and Harold Pablo paced the Westside Pride with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association, host of the summer league games with the County of Kaua‘i, said several of the high school boys were not at the game because they opted to attend the NJB Tournament on O‘ahu with Guy Higa who is coaching a Boys 17 and Under team.
Canaan Higa, Spam Lindsey, Brian Andres and Nalu Simao make up that team.
Also participating from Kaua‘i are the Kaulupono Girls Under 12 and Girls Under 14 teams as well as the Hanakila Boys Under 14 team.
NJB games are being played as three different gyms in Manoa, Kaimuki and at Kaiser High School.
