LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative has signed a purchase agreement with Kaua‘i Farm Fuel to supply biodiesel at its Port Allen powerplant, KIUC officials said Monday.
KFF, a local business that produces and sells biodiesel, will supply KIUC fuel for its stork wartsila diesel engines, a news release states.
“Although this fuel will account for a very small portion of our total consumption, we are excited that it is locally sourced and refined,” said Brad Rockwell, production manager at KIUC.
The KIUC Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution last month authorizing KIUC to sign the agreement.
