KAPA‘A — Papalina will face the Kaua‘i Ballers for the title of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association Boys 12 and Under division, Tuesday.
The match was determined following a Papalina 43-37 edge over Hanakila and a 50-23 win by the Ballers over Westside Basketball during the Boys 12 and Under playoffs, Saturday, at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapa‘a.
Hanakila, strong throughout the game, will face Westside Basketball for third place starting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. That game will be followed by the Papalina/Kaua‘i Ballers title match starting at 7 p.m.
A Men’s 18 and Over match between the Nite Owls, battling the Organic Apples to a tie last Thursday, and C-Town featuring a mix of players from high school to adults, will close off the night starting at 8 p.m.
Curren Dillberg, fast-moving guard and all-around Papalina player, paced the team’s edge with 12 points while another guard, Keali‘i Colipano, younger brother of Kapa‘a standout guard Kekoa Colipano, headed up the Hanakila effort with a game-high 16 points.
That was one of five games hosted by the KYBA/County of Kaua‘i, Saturday at the Bernice Hundley Gym, a relocated site after repairs to the side basketball nets at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center moved the games.
Michael Booth finished with a game-high 18 points to lead the Kaua‘i Ballers to its win over Westside Basketball who got 12 points from Briggs Agu, a guard for the team coached by Dino Pabre.
Willo Batol added 14 points to the Kaua‘i Ballers’ victory.
Kira Nakamura finished with 11 points to lead the Kaua‘i Ballers Women 18 and Over squad to a 34-19 showing over the KHS Alumni in the nightcap.
Cliflynn Bukoski led the Alumni effort with six points.
KYBA hosts the title game for the Girls 12 and Under division, today, starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Kamikaze will meet Kaulupono in the third place battle with the 6 p.m. tipoff. That game will be followed by the Kaua‘i Ballers meeting Westside Basketball in the title match starting at 7 p.m.
A Men’s 18 and Over game between the Supastars and Tropang-L will close out the night starting at 8 p.m.
