LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i police have opened a murder investigation in the case of Kapa‘a resident Amber Jackson, whose body was found Saturday in a wooded area in Kealia, county officials said Wednesday.
Jackson, 57, was last seen alive around 9 p.m. June 23. Friends put up a $10,000 reward for her safe return.
There is a possibility that the money may be offered instead as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the alleged crime, the friends said Wednesday.
An autopsy performed Tuesday concluded the injuries leading to Jackson’s death were the result of an assault, a county news release states.
Detectives are following up on leads. The case was previously classified as an unattended death, the release states.
Kaua‘i Police Department officials said there is no evidence this investigation is related to any of the unsolved murders that occurred in 1999 on the Westside.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to call KPD dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887, the release states.
