Sunday’s fireworks weren’t limited to the Fourth of July as Keola Lutz, Kawaihau’s catcher, pegged two in Kawaihau’s game against Kane‘ohe. Bob Kawamoto, the District 1 tournament director, said Kailua’s Noah Auld also hit two homeruns against Kahalu‘u, Sunday, and the tiger, Lia Tom, pitched the win that came on a mercy ruling.
Lutz’s second homerun came with two runners aboard and proved to be the game-winner in Kawaihau’s 8-5 edge, said Chad Rausch, the Kawaihau president.
Hats off to Sandra Tedder for another great Kaua‘i Hospice “Concert in the Sky,” Sunday. Ron Wiley said only Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. can wear the U.S. Constitution shirt because he is so big.
Mayor Bernard had to rush off to do a musical number at the drag races and then the Kekaha Fourth (kudos to Rhoda Libre for doing such a smooth job emcee-ing that event; coach Dino Pabre was busy keeping his Westside kids focussed on the games, and kudos to Joseph Figaroa on a great event).
OK, time to get ready for this weekend’s summer food drive with the Kaua‘i Food Bank (Kelvin Moniz was doing the Kekaha Fourth with information).
