‘OMA‘O — Maluhia Road in the vicinity of the Tree Tunnel will be limited to one lane of traffic through Thursday.
The county Public Works road personnel will be doing maintenance and tree trimming, states a county press release.
During the lane closures, which will run from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., a flag team will be directing traffic around the project sites.
“The county will be doing the heavy work like grading and the major tree trimming,” said Mary Daubert, county spokesperson. “A volunteer effort coordinated by the Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association will do the final sprucing up.”
Volunteers are welcome to the community clean-up day which will be from 8 a.m. to noon July 10 as a final preparation for the Koloa Plantation Days celebration which will unfold starting July 17.
“We need about 50 volunteers and would appreciate knowing how many people we have because we are planning to provide lunch and other refreshments for the volunteers after the clean-up,” said Kathy Leonard of the Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association. “But people can just show up on July 10 and we’ll welcome them.”
Volunteers should plan on providing gloves and be ready to do some work, she said. If they have favored pieces of equipment such as weed and brush trimmers and other cleaning equipment they want to use, they can bring those. Otherwise, equipment will be available as well as a limited number of gloves, she said.
“Because Maluhia Road will be closed, we’ll be meeting at the pavilion at the Koloa Ball Park,” Leonard said.
“We’ll have coffee and other light refreshments for the morning, and there will be lunch after the work is done. Volunteers need not worry about water because we’ll be providing that, too.”
During this community clean-up through Thursday, Maluhia Road will be completely closed from 8 a.m. until after the crews leave the area at noon.
Motorists heading to the South Shore during the temporary road closure are advised to use ‘Oma‘o or Koloa roads during this time.
