Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association said there were 19 bombs from outside the three-point arc in the 18 and Over Men’s game, 13 coming from C-Town and 6 coming from the Bull Horns in C-Town’s 76-51 win. C-Town effectively held a lead over the Bull Horns throughout the match.
Austin Simao ramped up for three of his game-total five three-balls in the second period en route to getting high point honors with 21 points for C-Town. Tab Matsumoto, cranking out two three-balls in the opening frame, followed with 19 points.
Douglas Lewis ended with 20 points to lead the Bull Horns’ effort followed by Garrick Barretto netting 11 points, nine points coming from a trio of treys in the second quarter. Lewis burned the twine with two three-balls in the third quarter.
Lele Hanie and Mele Moala led the Kaua‘i Ballers A to a 44-37 edge over Kaulupono in a pair of Girls 14 and Under matches, Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. Hanie finished with 14 points and Moala marked 13 points in the win, Kekai Gonsalves ending the day with seven points for the Kaua‘i Ballers A.
Jullynn Ramos and Casey Anacleto topped the Kaulupono effort with 10 and nine points, respectively.
Caitlyn-Amber Owen and Tiana Apilado combined for 24 points in Waimea’s 37-27 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers B team that got 16 points from Ariel Cummings and seven points from Shyanne Almarza.
Owen finished the game with 13 points followed by Apilado marking 11 points.
Natalie Mata returned from O‘ahu to lead with 14 points en route to a 49-22 win over the Kilauea Hui who got the services of Kapa‘a High School standouts Layna Christian (eight points) and Tori Tuttle (six points).
Sheana Mata added seven points to the .U. .NCH. win.
Tuesday night at the Kapa‘a High School gym will see the Kaua‘i Ballers play Hanakila B in a Boys 14U game at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., Hanakila plays the Kaua‘i Ballersin the 12U game, and Manny’s Sports hosts the Nite Owls in an 18 and over Men’s game starting at 8 p.m.
