LIHU‘E — Registration is now open for the first Prince Invitational Tournament, July 24-25, hosted by the Princeville Prince Golf Course on the North Shore, states a press release from event organizers.
The two-day event is open to professionals and amateurs, competing for the championship title. Sponsorship packages and opportunities are available, as well.
“Kauai is home to some of Hawai‘i’s top amateur players and junior golfers, yet it is the only island without a competitive golf event, since the Kaua‘i Open was discontinued eight years ago,” said Steve Murphy, Prince Course’s Director of Golf. “We want to fill that void with a new annual event, and we invite amateurs, juniors, and professionals from Kaua‘i and across the state to join us for an enjoyable competition and a true test of their skills.”
The Prince is ranked by Golf Digest as Hawai‘i’s number one course.
The tournament will be a 36-hole stroke play format with four flights, based on the USGA Handicap Index: Professional/Championship (handicap of 5 or less), A Flight (handicap 6-11), B Flight (handicap 12-18), and Women’s (open).
The overall champion will be determined by the lowest 36-hole gross score. Professionals will compete for cash prizes and amateurs for merchandise, with the amount of the final purse determined by the number of entries and sponsors.
The $175 entry fee includes green fees, prizes, tee gifts, and the Awards Luncheon on Sunday afternoon. Entry is limited to the first 120 players, with an entry deadline of July 16. Pre-event practice rounds will be offered to registered golfers at a specially reduced rate.
Entry forms for the Prince Invitational Tournament are available at Kaua‘i golf course pro shops across the island or by requesting a form via email at info@princeville.com. For inquiries regarding the event or sponsorship opportunities, contact Steve Murphy at 826-5065 or smurphy@princeville.com.
