Maethelle Mattulayan finished with five points to lead the Waimea effort in the Girls Under 14 baskeball games played at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapa‘a.
Nicole Palacio and Nicolei Banasihan teamed for 22 points to lead the Kaulupono 14s to a 39-19 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers B team, which got 10 points from Ariel Cummings. In the win, Palacio finished with a dozen points and Banasihan marked 10 points.
At the same time, three Boys 12 and Under games were being played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center where Team Central edged Lihu‘e, 28-18 in the first game. In the second and third games, Westside Basketball was just one point better than Hanakila, 42-41, and the Papalina boys topped the West Kaua‘i Hornets, 40-29.
Kaone Miguel led the Team Central win with 10 points while Lanakila Wilson headed Lihu‘e’s effort on eight points.
Briggs Agu, the strong guard, topped the Westside Basketball scoring with a game-high 22 points, followed by Jamin Fernandez adding 10 points and Bobby Oliver finishing with eight points. Hanakila got 16 points from Keali‘i Colipano.
Curren Dillberg paced the Papalina win with 11 points, followed by Kamea Palama-Alquiza adding nine points.
Reymund Mendoza finished with a game-high 13 points to lead the West Kaua‘i Hornets, followed by Bernny Ned adding 10 points.
The 12 and Under boys take the floor again Monday with three games on tap starting at 6 p.m. when Team Central hosts Hanakila. That game will be followed by Papalina going up against the Kaua‘i Ballers at 7 p.m. and the West Kaua‘i Hornets wrapping up the night against Lihu‘e starting at 8 p.m.
