WAILUA — A bill recently passed by the Kaua‘i County Council and signed by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. reduces golf fees for non-residents and clarifies definitions and regulation of play at the Wailua Golf Course.
The new rates for non-residents are as follows: weekday rate, $48; twilight weekday rate, $24; weekend and holiday rate, $60; and twilight weekend rate, $30, according to a county news release.
Non-residents also have the option of purchasing a play card for $215, which entitles them to five 18-hole rounds on weekdays. This amounts to a savings of $5 per round for five rounds.
For Hawai‘i residents, golf fees at the municipal course remain unchanged.
The golf course bill also defines the following terms:
— Junior Hawai‘i resident – any Hawai‘i resident who has not attained the age of 18 prior to registration.
— Resident – a person who has filed a Hawai‘i resident income tax return, Form N-11 or Form N-13, for the most recent tax period (The income tax return shall bear a Hawai‘i address) or voted in the most recent general or primary election in Hawai‘i, and possesses a valid Hawai‘i driver’s license with a Hawai‘i address on it or a valid State of Hawai‘i identification card with a Hawai‘i address on it. All active duty military personnel stationed in Hawai‘i are also considered residents.
— Senior Kaua‘i resident – Any Kaua‘i resident who has attained the age of 65 prior to registration who has filed a Hawai‘i resident income tax return, Form N-11 or Form N-13, for the most recent tax period (The income tax return shall bear a County of Kaua‘i address) or voted in the most recent general or primary election in Hawai‘i, and possess a valid Hawai‘i driver’s license with a Kaua‘i address on it or a valid State of Hawai‘i identification card with a Kaua‘i address on it.
— Super Kaua‘i senior – any Kaua‘i resident who has attained the age of 75 prior to registration who has filed a Hawai‘i Resident State Income Tax Return, Form N-11 or Form N-13, for the most recent tax period (The income tax return shall bear a County of Kaua‘i address) or voted in the most recent general or primary election in the County of Kaua‘i, and possesses a valid Hawai‘i driver’s license with a Kaua‘i address on it or a valid State of Hawai‘i identification card with a Kaua‘i address on it.
Other changes in the bill relative to regulation of play at the Wailua Golf Course include:
— All players must register at the registration office before playing the course. All players not registered will be considered trespassing and may be suspended from the golf course and arrested for trespassing.
— No sharing of golf clubs is allowed.
— Electric or gas carts shall be driven using the 90-degree rule except when the electric or gas cart rules are modified due to inclement weather. Carts must be kept on the cart paths at tees and greens.
— Shoes with corrugated soles or ladies high-heeled shoes or shoes with long hob nails and metal spikes are not allowed on the course.
— Starting times are recommended for play on the course.
— Club play, tournament, and tour reservations must be requested in writing or orally to the Parks and Recreation Director or his designee.
— All players with starting times must check in at the registration office at least 30 minutes prior to starting time.
— All green fees and lockers fees must be paid in advance. No “rain check” or refund will be given after teeing off.
