HANAMA‘ULU – About an acre of former sugar cane land near Palani Place in Hanama‘ulu was scorched during a brush fire this afternoon, a county news release states.
Fire fighters from the Lihu‘e and Kapa‘a stations along with rescue specialists and fire recruits responded to the 1:30 p.m. alarm and within a half hour, the fire was deemed under control.
Fire fighters continued to put out hotspots until the fire was fully extinguished at around 2:45 p.m.
No one was injured in the fire, and no structures were threatened.
With the dry season upon us, fire officials are asking residents to be cautious.
Fire prevention tips offered by the Kaua‘i Fire Department include:
— Don’t throw lighted cigarettes out of a car window.
— Don’t park your vehicle on dry grass.
— Never leave a fire unattended, i.e. campfires and backyard burning.
