ANAHOLA — Tanner Franklin netted two goals to lead the Ninja Unicorns to a 4-0 win over the Ninja Monkees, wrapping up the Kaua‘i Soccer Club 2010 spring season at the Anahola Park.
Franklin, opening the final game at the 13th annual Sassy/Jets tournament, was followed by Hailey Sheldon netting the second goal in the first half.
Tanner Fredericksen and Drew Veracruz got help from Cassie Wilson and worked off each other, but were unable to get past the Unicorns’ defense for the 2-0 read at the half.
Vanessa Rubo got the assist for Franklin’s second goal, opening the second half, and Gabby Tabonair sealed the win with passes from Kaylee Overmeyer and Jesse Gilberb getting the assist.
Earlier, the No. 2 seeded Ninja Monkees bested the Coconut Heads in a shoot out when Shaylia Pimental and Joni Hashizume notched penalty kicks for the Monkees against the Coconut Heads’ Rachael Hinkel netting its kick.
Kekai Gonsalves netted two first-half goals to give the Coconut Heads a 2-0 lead at the half that was answered when Pimental and Faith Blaylock kicked goals in the second half to force the scoreless overtime leading to the shoot out.
Cassie Wilson, getting to the goal on passes from Tyra Alao and Justin Franklin, netted a goal to give the top-seeded Purple Pepperoni Pigeons a 1-0 halftime bulge.
But Tabonair came back for the Ninja Unicorns to deadlock the contest in the second half, and went on to break the stalemate on a late-game goal on a Deshaynee Iseri-Carvalho pass.
Coach Gwen Tamura said the annual Sassy/Jets tournament is a traditional way the Kaua‘i Soccer Club wraps up its spring season in a fun-filled family gathering where each team had the opportunity to select its own team names.
