Therese Jasper was afraid she was not going to see the end of the Women’s College World Series, Thursday as flames shot over her SUV while she was driving to the Island School preschool graduation.
Ross Shimabukuro (happy birthday, Ross and Naomi Nishida!) was stoked with the University of Hawai‘i softball team winning game one and texted one of his friends who was at the game in Oklahoma before realizing he had Jessica Iwata’s (the UH freshman shortstop and Kaua‘i High School graduate) cell-phone number. He texted her as well and even got a reply before the Readiness & Emergency Management for Schools conference was over.
Penny Vess is going one better…she got the results from her sister who is at the games, and Penny said she’ll be taking in some of the games en route to Florida.
Linda Smith said Alan Smith was busy putting up the ball throw for the Hanapepe Soto Zenshuji bon dance so the Rookies (men’s senior softball team) could run that concession.
Congratulations to Bill Arakaki and all those who pulled that conference together! Ron Wiley and Jason Fujinaka sounded just as if the tabletop exercise was the real thing, as did the first-responders.
OK, so it’s off to the Rotary Club of Kapa‘a’s Taste of Hawai‘i Sunday before getting to Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani hula ho‘ike at the convention hall.
