KALAHEO — Denmark Aladin had 15 points and Matthew Cummings finished with a dozen to lead Hanakila B to a 37-34 win over Hanakila A, Tuesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Paulwin Tommy launched a bomb from outside the three-point arc and Steven McCabe netted six points as the Kaua‘i Ballers jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first period en route to a 31-20 win over Westside Basketball in the nightcap.
Tommy’s three-ball was answered by Koa Lagapa in the second period, those two treys being the only ones nailed in a game that saw the Ballers maintain a good distance over the Westside team.
McCabe finished with high-point honors for the Ballers, ending the night with 10 points, followed by Makana Aki coming up with seven points. Tommy finished with five points followed by Willard Batol adding four points. Junard Mata’s three points and a first period pair from Julian Hines accounted for the win.
Mark Abalos topped the Westside scoring with nine points, including four in the third period where Westside outscored the Ballers 6-2. Lagapa followed with seven points. Pairs from Jamin Fernandez and Jed Lagoc rounded out the effort.
Following Aladin and Cummings, Hanakila B got six points from Tryston Dela Cruz and pairs from Justin Apilado and Lexton Camat.
Keliikoa Baclayon came up with eight second-half points, including four critical final period points when Hanakila A outscored the B team, 10-4, to pull to within three points before the buzzer sounded.
Baclayon’s eight points were matched by Marlon Cudiamat and Dante Dikema, followed by Jackson McCullough adding six points, including four final-frame marks, and Jarren Cassca rounded out the effort with four points.
The 12 and Under girls take the floor Friday night when Lihu‘e matches up with Kaulupono starting at 6 p.m., followed by Westside Basketball hosting the Kamikaze at 7 p.m.
The 14 and Under girls are on the court Saturday when Waimea and Kaulupono tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the Kaua‘i Ballers “A” taking on the Kaua‘i Ballers “B” starting at 3 p.m.
