LIHU‘E — A 26-year-old Hanama‘ulu resident was in stable condition Monday evening at Wilcox Memorial Hospital after being hit by a vehicle while riding a moped.
The hit-and-run crash happened Saturday night in Kapa‘a, a county news release states.
The moped rider was heading west on Olohena Road approaching the intersection of Olohena and Lehua roads at around 8:52 p.m. when he was hit by an eastbound silver car that was making a left turn onto Lehua Road from Olohena Road.
The driver of the silver car left the scene of the crash.
The moped rider was taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.
According to police, the silver vehicle involved in Saturday night’s crash likely has scratches and scrapes on the driver side and possibly some yellow paint that transferred from the moped.
In addition, the car might also have a broken driver side rear view mirror and a broken or cracked driver side front turn signal cover and headlight.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Police Dispatch at 241-1711, Officer Vernon Scribner, 241-1617, or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.
In a separate incident last week, an 18-year-old Hanapepe man remained in stable condition Monday at Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu after falling while skateboarding Tuesday afternoon on Halewili Road in Numila.
