NAWILIWILI — The Kaua‘i County Council Parks and Transportation Committee on Wednesday approved a resolution to acquire ocean-front property in Waipouli as part of the multi-use path.
The total amount of land to be acquired by eminent domain is 2,724 square feet, according to county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
It will cost roughly $100,000 to condemn the land, according to Councilman Tim Bynum.
Resident Glenn Mickens, who has been a stealth critic of the path, said he cannot believe that in this “huge economic downturn we are even thinking of spending more money on the path.”
Bynum, however, said virtually all of the money will come from federal funds, and if the county decides to abandon the project the federal government will spend the money elsewhere.
