LIHU’E – Four teams involved in the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association and the County of Kaua‘i will be on the floor Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
Karen Matsumoto of KYBA said there are four boys’ teams and four girls’ teams involved in the 14 and Under age group summer basketball program that starts Thursday.
At 5 p.m., the Kaua‘i Ballers “B” under coach William Aki will open against Kaulupono, coached by Bobby Kamakele at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
That match will be followed by the Kaua‘i Ballers “A,” also coached by Aki, tipping off against Waimea, coached by Elton Montemayor, starting at 6 p.m.
The boys take the floor starting at 7 p.m. when Hanakila “A,” coached by Philip Baclayon, tips off against the Kaua‘i Ballers coached by Aki. At 8 p.m., Hanakila “B,” also coached by Baclayon, will take on Westside Basketball, coached by Dino Pabre, the coordinator of the adult Sunday night league at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
There is no admission to view the games, which are tentatively scheduled to play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
There are also three Saturday games on tap for June and the final games will be played July 8 for the boys and July 10 for the girls.
Matsumoto said she expects to add in the 12 and Under divisions next week with that age group starting play during the final week in May.
