LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department will be conducting free vehicle-tint inspections next week.
The inspections will be from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Hanapepe Armory parking lot, a county news release states.
The public is encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to find out whether their tinted car windows meet the legal requirements as set forth in the Hawai‘i window tint law.
Citations for window tint violations will not be issued during KPD’s scheduled inspections, according to Acting Assistant Chief Ale Quibilan with the Patrol Services Bureau.
“There are so many different types of window tints on the market, which has caused confusion as to what’s legal and what’s not. Our intention is to educate residents on this matter and hopefully, those who need to change their tint in order to comply with the law and be able to pass a vehicle safety inspection will take the opportunity to do so,” he said.
