LIHU‘E — County officials announced Monday that registration for the 2010 Summer Enrichment Program is scheduled for May 17 and May 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Because of these tough economic times, registration fees will be handled a little differently this year,” said Cindy Duterte, executive on recreation, in a county news release. “We developed a fee schedule that we hope will allow families that have been affected by the downturn to enroll their children in the summer program. Additionally, income eligible families will pay reduced fees.”
The fee schedule is as follows:
— One child, $100 – Income eligible families would pay $50
— Two children, $123 – Income eligible, $62
— Three children, $135 – Income eligible, $68
— Four children, $140 – Income eligible, $68
Duterte noted that income eligible families will need to provide documentation of the financial/food stamp assistance they are receiving at the time of registration.
Registration will be held at the following neighborhood centers: Hanapepe, 335-3731; Kapa‘a, 822-1931; Kalaheo, 332-9770; Kekaha, 337-1671; Kilauea, 828-1421; Koloa, 742-1313; and Lihu‘e, 241-6858.
Sign-ups for King Kaumuali‘i will be done at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center. Registration for Koloa Elementary School will take place at Koloa Neighborhood Center.
Enrollment is limited and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Another major change in the Summer Enrichment Program is that breakfast will be served to all participants at no additional charge instead of lunch,” said Duterte, adding that parents must provide lunch, snacks and drinks for their children.
The theme for this year is “Kids Who Care: 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”.
The Summer Enrichment Program is open to youngsters, ages 5 to 11.
The session runs from June 14 to July 23, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
If additional support or an auxiliary aid is required for a child to participate in the Summer Enrichment Program, please contact Melanie Okamoto, 241-4462, at least 10 business days before the program begins.
