LIHU‘E — Waimea High School will open against No. 4 seed Pahoa of the Big Island Thursday at the Kalani High School gym starting at 5 p.m.
The Menehune, earning the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship in an exciting five-game match against Kapa‘a High School last week, failed to get any of the seedings in the New City Nissan Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Volleyball Championships, Division II.
Hawai‘i Baptist secured the top seed in Division II followed by Moanalua getting the second seed. Seabury earned the No. 3 seed followed by Pahoa as the fourth seed.
If successful against Pahoa, Waimea will face the winner of the top-seeded Hawai‘i Baptist/Waipahu match in the semifinals of Division II, Friday, at 7 p.m. at Kalani High School, the winner advancing to the Saturday finals.
Punahou is the top seed in Division I followed by Roosevelt as the No. 2, Kamehameha School-Big Island the No. 3 and Baldwin of the Maui Interscholastic League getting the No. 4 seed.
Teams participating in Division II include Waipahu, Hawai‘i Prep, Kohala, and Waimea joining the top four seeds.
Division I participants include Wainanae, Pearl City, Kalani, Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, Lahainaluna, Iolani and Leilehua joining the top four seeds.
The winner of a play-in game between McKinley and Waiakea high schools will open play Wednesday against Kalani.
Championship for the Division II will play at 5 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley High School gym.
