PO‘IPU — Stomping out of the header and heeling box with a winning time of 65.03, catching all six steers, Ross Farias and Randy Brun took first place at a high money $100 per man team roping jackpot event held April 25 at CJM Country Stables in Poipu.
“This roping was a very good event to rope in,” said Brun, who is a previous winner of numerous roping events. “It gave everyone a chance to rope and compete in a six-steer average. I was able to see what it took to stay focused and catch all six steers. My dream one day is to compete in the BFI (Bob Feist Invitational). Winning this roping made me believe that I’m getting one step closer to that dream.”
“Makes it easy when my horse is working good,” Ross Farias said about the win. “It makes it easy for my heeler to catch. My Cactus rope was in the heat that day… better rope, better results.”
Taking first place on the first three steers was the team of Ross Farias and Jimmy Miranda with a time of 25.12. Coming in second place was Robby Farias and Randy Brun with a 27.44 time on three. Roping their way into third place was the team of Kody Yamamoto and Jimmy Miranda with a time of 28.14 on three steers.
In the second three-steer roping event, Bob Farias and Teddy Antipala came in first place with a winning time of 26.46 on three, Bob Farias and Robby Farias placed second on three with a time of 29.14, and taking third place with victory ahead was the team of Ross Farias and Randy Brun.
Coming back at second place in the six steer, roping all but one, Randy Brun and Sam Brun finished with a close time of 46.16 on five steers. Jimmy Miranda and Kody Yamamoto roped five steers in a time of 50.14, bringing their team to third place.
In fourth place, the team of Chaz Rita and Randy Brun came out with a time of 54.97 on five. Ross Farias and Jimmy Miranda placed fifth with a time of 57.22 on five steers, and taking sixth place on five steers was Ross Farias and Randall Soares with a close time of 57.23.
The American Cowboy Team Roping Association held their fourth roping of the season at CJM, April 24.
Roping in the #4.5, Woody Childs and Kalani Aki placed first for fast-time only, first go, with a time of 8.76.
Winning the average with a time of 36.90/3 was Sam Thronas and Jimmy Miranda. Glen Shimazu and Kamoe Refamonte placed second with a time of 37.06/3. Third place was Sam Thronas and Pat Debusca with a time of 59.74/3 and fourth place with a time of 60.49/3 was Sam Thronas and Kody Yamamoto.
In the #10.5 handicap, there was a tie for first in the fast-time only, first go, as the teams of Robby Farias and Randy Brun and Russell Miranda and Stuart Wellington each had a time of 7.25.
Winning the average in the #10.5 in first place was Kurtis Low and Pat DeBusca with a winning time of 21.18/3. Placing second was Chaz Rita and Randy Brun with a time of 21.90/3, while Robby Farias and Randall Soares took third with a time of 22.8/3.
Fourth place went to Pat Brun Jr. and Tom Aiu with a time of 24.88/3, and fifth place was Kody Yamamoto and Ryan Fu with a time of 27.16/3.
