LIHU‘E — Gates to the Diesel Truck Shoot-Out open for racers starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, and for spectators at noon to the Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana.
The Garden Island Racing Association will host its monthly drag races Saturday and will feature diesel trucks.
“The Diesel Truck Shoot-Out and the brutal horsepower at the wheel between the powers of Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke are back by popular demand,” said Kerri Villa of the GIRA, in an e-mail. “Whether the build is modified with haze smoking out the stacks, or strictly stock, we can guarantee a boost showdown off the line.”
Villa said joining the diesel monsters, record-holding dragsters, door slammers, muscle cars, nine-second motorcycles, imports, street, sport compacts and Junior Dragsters will also be on the race card.
Admission to the event is $12 for adults with children 12 and under admitted free.
Tech inspection of the race cars takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Time trials start at 2 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. Following a dinner break, bracket racing eliminations start at 7 p.m. until completed.
The Kaua‘i Raceway Park is located on Kaumuali‘i Highway about 28 miles west of Lihu‘e, outside of Kekaha. Racing banners on the left side of the highway will indicate the entrance located just past mile-marker 28.
