LIHU‘E — A soft-drink vending machine was left on Waikomo Road in Koloa early Saturday morning by unknown suspects police think were attempting to steal the machine or its contents of money or soda, a county news release states.
The suspects apparently dragged the machine from the Koloa Big Save at around 5 a.m. and left it lying on the road, according to a preliminary report.
Anyone with information about the attempted theft is asked to call Kaua‘i Police Department dispatch at 241-1711, or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.
Kaua‘i police are urging business owners who have coin-operated or cash-dispensing machines or equipment — especially those in remote or isolated areas — to take precautionary measures to ensure the security of these machines.
Motorists, pedestrians and anyone else who notice pickup trucks carrying the above-mentioned machines — especially during the late-night and early-morning hours — are asked to call police dispatch or Crime Stoppers, the release states.
