Kudos to Gregg Gonsalves and Calvin Paleka on a great tennis qualifying tournament! Kiahuna Tennis Court is a great facility — there’s always the Puka Dog and Papalani Gelato next door, and Nellie Okamoto said Chas’ dad was having lunch at Keoki’s on Thursday.
Speaking of gelato, Ellen Edmands got homesick when she had some in New York and had to call to say how good the Papalani ones are.
You knew it was a championship-caliber softball game Saturday, because Joe Grace (how many people wanted roast pork?) and coach Albert Soto (how many years since Waimea was champion?) were in the house. Michael Koerte said since there was nothing else going on, there was a huge crowd at Waimea Canyon Park, and the Menehune Softball Boosters did a thriving lunch business following Game 1, and the stars were in the right alignment because Yumi’s still had apple pies!
OK, ‘nuff said…time to get ready for May Day (Troy Lazaro is waiting down at the Marriott’s Waiohai).
