LIHU‘E — A stronger, more vibrant Kaua‘i is the vision of Nadine Nakamura who filed her nomination papers for the office of the Kaua‘i County Council, Tuesday afternoon.
Using her 20 years of experience as a planner, project manager and facilitator, Nakamura is seeking office to help make her vision a reality.
“My goal is to seek a balance between future growth and the preservation of our rural character, values and lifestyle that we all hold dear,” Nakamura said in a release.
If elected, Nakamura would like to promote partnerships for a diversified economy with living wage jobs, preserve the beauty of the island, expand park and recreational activities, build on the transportation system, promote locally grown food and renewable energy, develop a range of affordable housing options and improve on government accountability.
Nakamura facilitated the Kaua‘i General Plan Update, wrote the Kaua‘i Economic Development Plan, worked with community stakeholders to develop a management plan to preserve Lawa‘i Kai, and developed special needs housing throughout the state.
She served as vice chair of the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, vice chair of the Housing and Community Corporation of Hawai‘i, and is a member of the Cost Control Commission.
She is married to Galen Nakamura and is the mother of two children, ages 10 and 13. She is an active member of the Kapa‘a Elementary School PTSA, the Kapa‘a Middle School Community Council and is a frequent spectator at youth soccer, baseball and flag football games.
