WAILUA — Rescue workers are utilizing a two-pronged approach as they begin day four of their search for a 26-year-old male visitor from Orem, Utah who went missing in the Wailua Valley Thursday.
Ryan Soper was wearing a black Under Armor shirt with long sleeves and a pair of black and white board shorts when he reportedly left his tour group on foot near Secret Falls, according to county officials.
Rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station, firefighters from the Koloa and Waimea stations, state Department of Land and Natural Resources personnel, and a canine search team split into two groups after developing their strategy at the incident’s command post near the Wailua River boat ramp where they met at 8 this morning, a county news release states.
One team is searching in the upper end of the valley, while the other is combing the area above Wailua Falls in former sugarcane land.
The search is ongoing at this hour.
Soper is 5-feet 10-inches tall and weighs about 240 pounds. He has short blond hair, blue eyes, a fair complexion and a large build. Soper is of Caucasian ancestry, a county news release states.
