Tab Matsumoto fired five of the 10 three-balls to guide the Kalaheo Stars to a 53-33 win over Manny’s Sports, Wednesday night at Kaua‘i High School.
Kyle Pigao, power forward on the inside, popped three treys en route to scoring 21 points in the Batty Boys’ 55-43 win over Tropang-L in the nightcap of the doubleheader in the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association 18 and Over men’s league.
Peter Rayno, one of the game officials commented on how there were so many three-balls, it was raining threes at the Raiderdome.
The Batty Boys took an early lead, but Tropang-L kept up, eventually outscoring the Batty Boys in the final frame.
In that game, the Batty Boys knocked down four from outside the three-point arc while Tropang-L finished with a pair of three-balls.
Following Pigao’s lead, Ian Khan added 13 points and David Medeiros finished with six points, one point ahead of Micah Bermoy, who chalked up a three-ball in the third quarter. James Sagucio and Clareson Torres each netted four points and a pair from C.J. Riopta accounted for the win.
James Badua continued to pace the Tropang-L with 15 points, followed by Eugene Mariano adding seven points.
Sammy Perpose and Jr. Punzalan finished with six and five points, respectively. Reggie Punzalan ended with four points and pairs from Rey Peralta, Ian Nerida and Jay Serapio rounded out the effort.
While the Stars finished with 10 treys, Manny’s Sports netted four, two coming from Mandlito Pescador who finished with 10 points to pace Manny’s.
Kekoa Prem finished with two three-balls for six points, Daniel Simao added five points and Matt Lindsey netted a trey toward his four points. Allen Calumag and Span Lindsey rounded out the showing with pairs.
Following Matsumoto’s game-high 24 points, Braxton Garma hit a pair of three’s toward his 10 points. Nouveau Naumu finished with two treys for six points. Trent Thompson took the long way around for his six points, netting three field goals and tall man Olin Claussen finished with five points. Brandon Wong added a pair to round out the win.
The teams next meet at the Kapa‘a High School gym on April 24 when the Batty Boys meet Manny’s Sports starting at 6 p.m. followed by Tropang-L going up against the Kalaheo Stars starting at 7 p.m.
