LIHU‘E — In recognition of April as National Poetry Month each Wednesday Kaua‘i High School slam poets perform original works during lunch hour to a full house on the second floor of the school library.
The top three poets for three consecutive weeks will compete against each other in a final match April 30.
Here is an excerpt from one of the top three poems, this one by junior Dayna Agustin.
On Common Ground
By Dayna Agustin
To these dark nights we cast away
the thought of giving, forging or peace at all.
But in these promising days,
chances for tomorrow seem brighter than the sun.
Let these lights illuminate the way.
Pass every challenge we ever thought to face alone.
And through strength in numbers create peace within each other.
Through faith and trust let us discover peace with each other.
