Michael Haugen Jr. of Cave Creek, AZ. collected 1,869 pins, rolling an average of 233.62 to advance to match play in the Professional Bowlers Association West/Northwest Region 11th Annual Rice Shopping Center Open Monday.
Haugen’s total compares with defending champion Tony Reyes of San Bruno, Calif., who finished second after 28 matches with a 1746, averaging 218.25.
Other players making match play which starts at 10 a.m. at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center include Jon Brandon (1698), Steven Black (1649), Tyler Jensen (1641), P.J. Haggerty (1611), Rodney Garrick (1604), Justin Stevens (1554), Rick Francis (1551), and Scot Mitamura (1545).
Stevens, of Aiea, O‘ahu, and Mitamura of Kaneohe, O‘ahu, are the remaining Hawai‘i players in the tournament, which started out with a field of 28 players rolling eight games each Monday.
Championships for the tournament will take place Tuesday and the public is invited to view the competition at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
