PO‘IPU — Sandra Akita was named All-Around Cowgirl and Britni Ludington-Braun finished as the Reserve All-Around, Sunday at the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association.
Akita ended the day with a pair of second places, three third places and a fifth place through six events to end with 46 points.
Ludington-Braun, topping the 1st D of the 3D Barrels event, pulled in a second and fifth place for 25 points to lock up the Reserve All-Around title.
Ludington-Braun topped the 1st D Barrels on an 18.045 go after wrestling the lead from Akita, who set the pace early on an 18.596 go. That time was bested by Alexis Vasconcelles, who ran the course in 18.326, good for second place and relegating Akita to third place in the 1st D.
Akita teamed with Alexis in the Team Roping event for a 34.62 event for third place and teamed with Shantel Wong for a 15.31/1 go for fifth place.
Rhonda Kaui nailed the top two spots in that event, teaming with Wong for a 34.81 go, just .07 seconds better than the second-place spot when Kaui teamed with Joyce Miranda for a 34.38 go.
Akita captured second in the Steer Undecorating event on a 14.88 go, and nailed third place in the 1st D of the 3D Pole Bending event on a 23.266 go below Wendy Tannery (22.659) and Ludington-Braun (22.802).
Akita rounded out the day with a second place in the Goat Tying event on a 28.68 go below Taylor Ludington (25.64). Ludington-Braun collected a fifth place in that event on a 31.74 go.
Kelli Carveiro flew through the Breakaway Roping event on a 7.00 go over the efforts of Cheree Rapozo-Vasconcelles (8.30) and Summer Malina (14.71). Kristene Sugai, recovering from a fall in the 3D Barrels event, (16.32) and Ludington (18.49) rounded out the leaderboard for that event.
Sugai and Ludington teamed for a fourth finish in the Team Roping at 13.34/1.
The next KAGRA rodeo is scheduled for April 11 at the CJM Country Stables and the public is invited to view the competition between Kaua‘i’s wahine paniolo.
There is no admission charge and a lunch wagon is available for food and drink.
