LIHU‘E — Pu‘uwai and Kukui‘ula Canoe Clubs will be hosting their fifth triathlon as the TriKaua‘i is set for April 11 at Poipu Beach Park.
TriKaua‘i is made up of three legs, starting with an ocean swim of 500 to 700 meters, depending on ocean conditions, followed by a 14-mile on-road bike course, leading to the 5K run that completes the event.
There are several different age groups for athletes to compete in, as well as individual or team options. Instead of completing all three events as an individual, a team can split the legs among multiple participants.
In addition to the triathlon, there is also a 5K fun run/walk available.
Registration fees for the triathlon are $60 for individuals ($55 with military ID) and $90 for team entries.
The fun run/walk is a $30 entry fee.
All registered participants will receive a t-shirt, though early registration is encouraged to ensure that participants receive a shirt on race day.
Proceeds from the day’s events will help fund the sponsoring canoe clubs, while a portion of the proceeds will also go to Kaua‘i Kids on Bikes, a local, non-profit organization.
The officials area will open at 5:30 a.m. on race day, with the race beginning at approximately 7 a.m.
The fun run/walk will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m.
