The first Hanalei Art Walk kicked off last December, and every month it gets bigger and better. This month’s event featured a belly-dancing troupe, live music, a surf movie, several local artisans and a fashion show, complete with a catwalk and stunning models.
We checked it out and saw hundreds of people from all corners of Kaua‘i, having a great time. Event mastermind and organizer Joel Guy said the art walk is a free and non-drug-and-alcohol community affair, helping support local businesses.
“Everybody tries to stay open a little late, and do something extra,” Guy said of the businesses in the area.
The highlight of last Saturday’s event was a full-on fashion show. Event director Jesse Howard, of Six Degrees Management, did an amazing job organizing all the details, from getting models, photographers, a makeup artist, music and the rest of the infrastructure.
Past art walks featured a disc jockey and children’s theater. Guy said next month’s art walk is a surprise, and he wouldn’t want to spoil the fun by disclosing it. So mark your calendar and make sure to come by on April 10.
