Vance Pascua will be inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame, June 19, in California.
The promoter of the Kaua‘i Cage Match, Pascua has poured no less than his heart and soul into all he has done for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in Hawai‘i, states an article from the MMA Hawai‘i.com.
Pascua’s exploits will be recognized during the induction into the Masters Hall of Fame which recognizes excellence in martial arts. A dinner in his honor will be held on June 19 at the Anaheim Hilton in California.
During the induction, Pascua will be presented with a ring manufactured by the same firm that produces the coveted Heisman Trophy and the Congressional Medal of Honor.
WAC honors softball player Kelly Majam
HONOLULU — The Western Athletic Conference has named University of Hawaii softball player Kelly Majam the league’s Hitter of the Week.
Majam racked up eight hits with five home runs and one double last week en route to garnering MVP honors at the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.
So far this season, she leads the Rainbow Wahine with 41 hits, 34 runs, two trirnes and 15 home runs.
Volleyball player Umlauft honored by MPSF
HONOLULU — University of Hawaii freshman volleyball player Jonas Umlauft has been named co-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week.
He led the Warriors to a two-match sweep of Long Beach State over the weekend.
The honor marks the third for a Hawaii player this season.
The Warriors hit the road for a pivotal two-match conference series with league-leader Pepperdine on Friday and Saturday in Malibu, Calif.
Wie signs endorsement deal with McDonald’s
OAK BROOK, Ill. — Michelle Wie has signed an endorsement deal with McDonald’s, with an advertising campaign that will be launched next month in five languages.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed Monday.
Wie is one of the most popular players in women’s golf, especially after the 20-year-old from Hawaii won her first LPGA Tour event last year in Mexico. She spends part of her time as a student at Stanford.
The commercial is to be available in two dialects of Chinese, English, Korean and Taglish. Wie also will take part in McDonald’s promotions that focus on education.
