On March 12, the Interfaith Roundtable of Kaua‘i held its annual elections, a news release states.
The new chairperson for the group will be Rev. Jasmin Schaffer. Two vice chairmen were elected, founding member, Jonathan Cender and Jewish representative, Monroe Richman. Another founding member, Patrick Parks of the Bahai community will be secretary.
The organization continues to stand strong, working to hold high the banner of community harmony and understanding between persons of different spiritual communities on our multi-faith island of Kaua‘i through sharing and discussion. Each year the Interfaith Roundtable of Kaua‘i also organizes the Martin Luther King day at Kukui Grove.
Held at the Buddhist Lihu‘e Honwanji Temple, now led by new minister from Japan, Rev. Itaru Nozaki, Faith community representatives were present from the United Methodist, Jewish, Bahai, Hindu, Quaker, Unity, Sokiren Buddhist fellowship, West side United Church of Christ and the Church of Divine Light.
The new officers and general membership want to take this opportunity to publicly express their appreciation for the work done by previous chairperson, Annaleah Atkinson who has worked tirelessly for the cause of the Interfaith Roundtable for the past year as chairperson and for several years before that as secretary. Her dedication to the spirit and principles for which the Roundtable was founded and her tireless work on behalf of Martin Luther King day and the feeding of the homeless are to be commended, the release says.
The Interfaith Round Table of Kaua‘i of Kaua‘i will continue to meet monthly to share and deepen mutual understanding amidst our diversity. Persons of any faith who are committed to a life of the spirit and to the common ground we find in all faiths: love, peace, charity, harmony, service and compassion are welcome to join.
The next meeting will be at noon, April 23, at Hongwanji Mission, Lihu‘e.
