Support nursing scholarships
April 11
Kiahuna Golf Club, Po‘ipu
All women golfers are invited to attend the Mokihana Club’s eighth annual women’s golf scramble. All proceeds go towards nursing scholarships at Kaua‘i Community College.
In an effort to increase the nursing workforce on the island, students who plan to pursue careers on Kaua‘i are sought for these scholarships. Over the past seven years the Mokihana Club has awarded $52,000 to KCC nursing students.
The nursing scholarships winners for 2009 were Sheri Kusunoki, Kapa‘a; Jordan Schick, Kapa‘a; Melbourne Gonzalez, Hanama‘ulu: Colleen Gonzalez, Kapa‘a; Tryson Shigemoto, Lihu‘e, and Annie Meredith, Lihu‘e.
Golfers may register for this year’s three-woman scramble either as a complete team or as individuals to be placed on a team. The $85 per person entry fee will provide for green fees, golf cart, gift bag and heavy pupu to follow at Joe’s on the Green, where the fundraiser will continue with prize drawings and a silent auction.
You don’t have to be a woman or a golfer to help support nursing students. All men, as well as non-golfing women, are encouraged to join in the post-golf festivities for the registration fee of $25.
Registrations are required by March 31. For further information or to obtain a registration form contact Lil Riley, 742-9027 or e-mail at rileykauai@yahoo.com.
College prep
10 a.m. Saturday
Princeville Public Library
Due to the tsunami warning on Feb. 27, the college preparation session was postponed. It is an informative session for high school teens and their parents. Adrya Siebring, dean of students at Island School, will discuss what you need to know to apply for college. This is a great opportunity for college-bound students to explore how to prepare themselves. Siebring will cover such topics as taking the SAT’s, choosing a major and what high school courses students should be taking to give them the best advantage for college. She will also have information available on how and where to apply for scholarships and how to write a dynamic scholarship essay.
Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville is the local chapter of Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i, an active group of library users and advocates who for years have supported Hawai’i’s public libraries through legislative testimony and funding for programs, equipment, and staff training.
