With the start of spring break for the public schools, basketball activity will be stepping up a notch when the Agena basketball clinic starts Monday at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
“The numbers for the clinic look fantastic,” said Karen Matsumoto, coordinator for the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association and helping at the officials’ table during the county’s 11 and Under league. “The boys and girls are looking forward to the clinic, and we’ll still have games in Kalaheo on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.”
Matsumoto estimates between 60-75 children will be participating in the clinic.
She said on March 26, Big Island councilman Dennis Onishi, who coaches the Piopio Bears program, will be bringing a 12 and Under girls team and some of their parents for a series of goodwill games during the Prince Kuhio weekend.
Matsumoto said the scoreboard at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center is functioning again after the county’s Building Maintenance electronic crew followed up with the repair request after the scoreboard acted up during last week’s games.
Papalina I will take on Westside in the first of two games scheduled for Monday starting at 6 p.m.
Papalina II will take the court following that contest, hosting the Westside Hornets starting at 7 p.m.
